Advance your career with OPEC Fund Scholarship

OFID (The OPEC Fund for International Development) has announced International Development Scholarship for qualified undergraduate students. The OFID Scholarship will be awarded to support an undergraduate student from any developing country, to pursue higher education in a relevant field of development, in any recognized university/college in the world. Through its scholarship scheme, OFID aims to help highly motivated, highly driven individuals overcome one of the biggest challenges to their careers – the cost of advanced professional or graduate training. The winner of the OFID Award will receive a scholarship of up to US$100,000 The funds will be spread over a maximum of two years, toward the completion of a Master’s degree, or its equivalent, at an accredited educational institution, starting in the autumn of the academic year.

I. Eligibility
To be eligible the candidate must meet ALL of the following criteria: :
Must be between the ages of 23-32 at the time of submitting his/her application.
Must be a graduating student with a Baccalaureate from a four-year, accredited college/university, or its equivalent.
Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 rating system, or its equivalent.
Must be matriculated at an accredited university for the upcoming academic year starting September, and must maintain full-time status for the duration of the Masters Degree.
Must be a national of a developing country (please see list of eligible countries)
Must select a subject of study that pertains to OFID’s core mission, such as: economics of development (poverty reduction, energy and sustainable development), environment (desertification), or other related science and technology fields.

II.Disbursement of the Scholarship Fund
The terms and conditions of payment will be determined in coordination with the student upon his/her selection in accordance with the following guidelines:
The tuition fees, including any supplementary examination fees, as may be required by the academic institution, will be paid by OFID directly to the academic institution. Health insurance will be paid in accordance with the institution’s own standard medical scheme.
A monthly allowance to cover living expenses, books and accommodation, will be transferred to the student’s own personal bank account on a quarterly basis.
Prior to the start of his/her first year studies, the student will be paid a relocation grant, equal to two-month allowance. OFID will also pay for travel costs from the nearest airport to the student’s place of residence, to the nearest airport to the chosen place of study. Upon completion of the studies, the student will be paid the cost of one-way air ticket to his/her home country.

III.Required documents

A scanned copy of the last university degree or certificate.
A scanned letter of acceptance from your chosen educational institution, confirming your admission, subject of study and duration of the Master’s degree program (must not exceed a maximum of two years).
A proof of meeting any prerequisites, including language proficiency.
A short essay – of about 250 words in English – giving reasons for applying for OFID’s scholarship, explaining your educational goals, and clearly describing how you will use the experience gained from your Masters degree studies to help in the development of your home country.
Two letters of recommendation from professors and/or lecturers at applicant's present university.

Community Health and Development Officer

A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in providing HR advisory services and/or managing staff and operational systems. Ability to plan own work, manage priorities to meet deadlines and work under pressure. Fluency in spoken and written English and Nepali is essential; including the ability to understand and carry out instructions and communicate in the same language. Good computer skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and relevant software packages. Good interpersonal skills, works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals. Ability to maintain effective working relationship with partners, and work in multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Experience in Administration, Human Resources Managemnt, Finance, Procurement and knowledge of UN procedures are assets.

Human Resource Development Officer

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Specialist

PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: Over the past decade, the political situation in Nepal, fuelled mainly by tensions between King Gyanendra, the Maoists, and the seven political parties, has deteriorated to the point of garnering significant international attention. With growing fears that Nepal may join the ranks of failed states, the international community, as well as national politicians, is applied pressure to all factions of the conflict. In addition to the death toll arising from this conflict recently surpassing 10,000, most agree that rural Nepalis, and the poor in particular, are bearing the brunt of the conflict. By conservative estimates, Kathmandu now hosts over 100,000 unofficial refugees who fled the countryside to avoid violence. This current loss of life and the conflict-induced demographic shifts are exacerbating ongoing poverty, environmental degradation, and political exclusion that has characterized Nepal for decades.
Mercy Corps established a presence in Nepal in July 2005 and is assisting with both basic humanitarian needs and longer-term development and conflict mitigation programming. Mercy Corps focuses on civil society and economic development through collaborating with local organizations, looking for ways to foster an innovative, peaceful change in Nepali communities.
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:The Country Representative (CR) is the senior management position for Mercy Corps in Nepal with supervisory and managerial responsibility over designated in-country personnel, programs and policies. The CR will be responsible for developing and implementing the overall strategic plan for programming in cooperation with Mercy Corps’ senior management team and local and international partners and developing proposals and pursuing funding opportunities as well as overseeing program implementation. S/he will also be responsible for developing and implementing systems, policies and procedures for Mercy Corps’ operations in Nepal.
